Spotlight On: Quilted Jackets

As is usually the case, when writing this blog post, I suddenly found myself down the rabbit hole of researching another blog post (thank God for browser tabs): quilted jackets. It’s an item of clothing that I can 100% get on board with as it’s warm (always a must) and the styling options are endless (all about the wear-ability).

The past few months my social media has been flooded with Scandi fashion girls wearing these but, I’ll admit, it’s not an item I’ve seen a lot of on the British high street. Where I found an absolute abundance is Etsy – there’s every colour and pattern you can think of. Plus, there’s something positive about supporting small businesses where you can.

I’ve picked my top 5 below with a styling idea to match.

  1. Pink Floral

I’m thinking a black jean, denim shirt and these Adidas trainers (although, these could be out of stock for the next eternity at this rate).

2. Olive Green

For a Spring/Summer look this would look lovely with a nude midi dress and some slip-on sandals.

3. Peach Floral

Same pattern as the pink, but in a lovely peach colour. Would make a cute Spring outfit with white jeans, a white t-shirt and these Birkenstock clogs.

4. Pink and Peach Floral

I’d pair this with blue wash jeans, a white tank top and some high-top white Converse.

5. Cropped Floral

This last one is a bit of red herring as it’s actually an Amazon find, but it’s too cute not to include. This would look great with a white jean and or skirt and neutral top layer.

January Wish List

It’s with a doubt the coldest, darkest, most depressing of all the 12 months of the year so here’s what’s on my current January wish list that is giving me joy.

Cropped Puffer Jacket

I found this while researching for this style post and I’ve not been able to stop oggling over it since! It would look great styled with jeans, leggings, joggers, UGGs, trainers, Birkenstocks – I could go on. It’s the definition of a statement piece.

Tasman Crafted Regenerate UGGs

These caught my eye as they’re a bit different from the embroidered Tasmans that have been doing the rounds. I love the detailing on the top (kind of looks like a boat shoe) and they’ve still got the height of the original – and the fur lining!

Birthstone Necklace

I’m a sucker for anything birthstone or star sign related and I love this dainty shade of green. Apparently peridots also protect whoever wears them during the night so, as a chronic nightmare receiver, I think this is the perfect solution.

Corduory Tripod Armchair

This one should probably be on my year wish list, not just my January one as she’s definitely an investment piece… but a corduory armchair! I’ve never seen such a thing and I love it.

Mug

If I was a mug.

Sunrise Alarm Clock

I’ve wanted to try one of these for years. Quite honestly I’d give anything a go to make getting up during these dark months easier, and the reviews for this speak for themselves.

One Grey Winter Coat Three Ways

If I had a capsule wardrobe (I’ve said for years I’m going to do one), a tailored grey coat would most definitely be one of the items that featured. The styling possibilities are endless! This is my coat of choice for this post (and she’s in the sale!) as I love her timeless simplicity.

Jeans

Hoodie

Trainers

Handbag – still obssessing over this BV dupe

Sunglasses

Outfit Two

Tote – she’s corduroy, too!

I can really get onboard with the casual sporty combo that has invaded the fashion scene over the past year. To be comfy and still feel put together is the dream.

Style Inspo: Scandi

Social media has been awash the past few years with Scandi influences, and, for the most part, it’s their serene lifestyle and on-point style that are the focus. If I had to sum up their look it would be chic minimalism, with tailored lines and neutral tones.

Whilst doing my usual late-night Pinterest scroll I came across the three outfits below and decided to recreate them with pieces I’ve found on the high street.

Designer vs Dupe: Handbags

Whilst researching for this post, my brain suddenly pinged and I realised I’d accidentally stumbled on a dupe of the Marc Jacobs Tote Bag – hence the reason for this post! It’s safe to say the vast majority of us don’t have the means or inclination to drop ££££s on a handbag – so dupes it is! The high street is coming up strong on this, as these beauties below prove.

Dior

Another EGO gem.

Dupe

Designer

Bottega Veneta

Pretty much the same except the knot is on the other side and the weave is smaller in the dupe version – the overall shape and style of the original remain!

Dupe

Designer

Marc Jacobs

The possibilities for using this number are endless! From shopping tote, to beach/travel bag to an everyday bag.

Dupe

Designer

Celine

My TikTok has been awash with this piece, and with good reason, she’s a beaut and also comes in a lovely camel colour.

Dupe

YSL

A timeless, classic piece.

How to Style: Winter Coats

I’m a real sucker for a good winter coat (I blame my Mum) and this year’s high street offerings are popping off! I’ve chosen three different styles and colours and shown you how I would opt to style them.

Outfit One

First up is a shorter option. Love the colour and quilted effect of this one, perfect for a stylish comfy-casual look.

Coat

Tracksuit set

UGGs – new style I love

Scarf

Outfit Two

Smart on the top, comfy on the bottom.

Coat

Jeans

Rollneck

Handbag

Trainers – Skechers, who’d have thought!

Outfit Three

The star of this ensemble is this gorgeous pink pea coat from M&S.

Fun fact: The term “pea coat” comes from the Dutch word pijjekker or pijje, meaning “pilot’s jacket” as Dutch pilots first wore them back in the 17th Century. Who knew!

Coat

Jeans

Cardigan

White vest

Trainers – these are a quirky find.

Sunglasses

One Pair of Jeans Three Ways

I was influenced on this one but not by someone online, rather a girl that walked past me as I was entering Co-op to get my fresh croissant fix. I immediately went home, checked my jeans drawer just to make sure I definitely didn’t have a pair of the jeans in question at the bottom of a pile(!), and then scoured the Internet to find the perfect pair. I was specifically looking for a cropped, straight leg, darker wash mom jean (always feels weird writing mom).

My hunt proved fruitful and I found this pair of beauties from Stradivarius. I’ve had jeans from them before and I knew they were affordable, comfortable and the colour wouldn’t fade.

Ta da! So, this is the pair I knew I was working with.

How to Style: Puffers

I’m a sucker for a good puffer coat. Being a dog mum means my days are filled with plenty of cold walks with my little shadow. So, when doing so, who wouldn’t want to feel like they’re wrapped in a hug.

I’ve chosen three puffers and put together three totally different looks for a bit of style inspo on this cold Monday night.

Outfit One

A perfect mooching around town look.

White puffer (she’s in the sale!)

2024 Fashion Trend: Preppy Style

I’ll be honest, usually when I look at what is set to be ‘one of the year’s hottest fashion trends’ I let out a sigh or say ‘but-who-the-heck-would-actually-wear-that’. This fact was just proved, when I was reading about what are predicted to be 2024’s hottest fashion trends and the term sequin-encrusted micro-minis was thrown around…

One of this year’s hottest trends is set to be a preppy aesthetic (think Gossip Girl with a sprinkling of Saltburn) and this is something that I think is realistic and appealing to the majority of us working, fashion-conscious gals. Think polo shirts, school-style blazers and button-down shirts that you can wear on repeat in a multitude of different ways,

Let’s start with blazers.

Herringbone Blazer

She’d look good with a white tee, a striped shirt, cropped jeans, flared jeans, you name it!

Wool Blazer

A Reiss goodie. Yes, she’s more of an investment piece but the outfit combinations are unlimited so the return per wear is a no-brainer! Love the mismatched pockets, too.

Oversized Blazer

There’s nothing like a tailored piece to make you look and feel put together when, in fact, you may look and feel the exact opposite. This oversized piece is perfect for such days when you need comfort but style.

Next up: button-down shirts.

IMO, a button-down shirt (usually blue-striped) is the epitome of preppy style. It’s so versatile for pairing with trousers, jeans, skirts or shorts. These are some of my favourites that I’ve found this season.

Striped Fitted Shirt

Corduroy Shirt

I remember wearing a pair of green corduroy trousers to a friend’s birthday party c. 2007(?) and then corduory seemed to vanish but it appears to have crept back in the past few years and I am here for it!

Blue Cotton Shirt

A crisp, blue shirt – nothing like it.

I won’t lie, I’ve never been a polo shirt wearer but, since we’re talking preppy style, I can’t not include some options. I’ve only chosen long-sleeved pieces as it’s winter and it’s cold. Warmth is a must.

Long Sleeve Polo Top

Love, love the green and pink colour combo.

Crochet Polo Knit Top

A quirkier take on a polo knit top.

Soft Stripe Polo Sweater

Tommy Hilfiger is undeniably the king of preppy.

5 Budget Friendly Ways to Elevate Your Bathroom

These ideas prove that you don’t need to break the bank to give your bathroom a new lease of life.

Change Your Toilet Roll Holder

Something as simple as getting a new toiler roll holder can give the room an instant lift (let’s face it, it’s an important part of your visit!).

If you’re wanting to create more of a rustic look then this wicker-effect basket and holder are perfect.

For a more edgy look, this leather holder is a great option.

Accessories, Accessories, Accessories

Much like when putting an outfit together, whether functional or purely aesthetic, adding accessories such as trinkets, jars or candles will give any bathroom a more cosy, lived-in feel.

These jars are a great option as they look like glass but are actually made of acrylic aka shatterproof (always a bonus).

For a more elegant look, these crystal jars are stunning.

One of the greatest joys in life is a hot bath with a candle, this long-lasting candle smells divine and comes in a quirky little jar with a lid.

Add Some Greenery

Real or fake, the addition of plants gives life to the room.

For the less-green thumbed, these faux vine plants are a good option (and don’t look too fake).

But, for those of us who take pride in our ability to keep plants alive longer than a month, these planters are a stylish option.

Shelving or Artwork

Functional and aesthetic, shelves are a great way for piggybacking other design elements such as flowers, storage items, candles, etc.

These floating shelves are a great option and allow for a cleaner look without chunky brackets. Especially good if you’re working with a smaller space.

Wicker storage basket and wooden soap tray similar to those above.

There’s also the option to add a touch of humour through prints like these.

Statement Bathmat

Of course, it depends what colour scheme you’re working with, but I think it’s the perfect opportunity to add a touch of fun to the room.
